Project Overview

GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME

Our projects usually start through a unique connection. It might be a random phone call, a connection at a party or a good old fashioned referral. Going back in time about ten years, a friend of ours would always say, “one day you will design my house”. We never pictured it happening the way it did but we are all grateful for this special historic carriage home project.

Devon PA Interior Renovation Design

We were initially brought onto this project through a scheduled consultation. At the time our friends needed some help as they were unsure of the existing layout. We walked through the space and made some crucial changes prior to the construction taking place. The mudroom was originally planned to be where the current sun room is. The room had beautiful doors and windows and a gas fireplace. It also wasn’t located near any of the main entrances making it a poor choice for a mudroom. We quickly turned around the plans creating an “every day” entrance for the family. The space initially allocated for the mudroom became a sitting room/playroom. We also made some exterior changes to keep the original character of the home intact. At this point most of the framing was up so we could only change so much.

Months later we were contacted by the client to help consult alongside the construction crew. The home owners were having a hard time communicating their plans to the original team and in return that team was not able to guide the clients to a comfortable decision. Our firm jumped right in and started finalizing the details.

After a few months of consulting we had a tough decision to make. The original construction team’s vision was not aligning with our vision nor the client’s vision. We decided to hire our own team of builders and trades to complete the project in our client’s grand and beautiful vision. The task wasn’t easy but we put together the perfect crew. Delays like Covid, product availability and inflation were working against us. We carefully examined all the existing work prior to our start and made any improvements we felt necessary.

Throughout the renovation we stuck to our tried and true process which allowed us to present all the furnishings to the client without delaying our progress. Our clients made swift decisions which allowed us to really create the home they envisioned. Modern sensibilities with carefully selected fixtures created a timeless sense of style that speaks to a young family raising children. Bell jar pendants with contemporary crystal fixtures create a beautiful story throughout the home’s layout.

The bathroom and kitchen finishes were selected to create a fresh look that felt as if it may be original with slight modifications over time. Luxury appliances and ample prep space created a dream kitchen for any chef or chef to be. The distressed blueberry wood island may leave guests wondering if it was from the original owners. Behind the walls are high efficiency HVAC systems, sump pumps, and smart technology solutions which provide peace of mind in an old historic home.

I think one of our favorite change orders was keeping the original windows to modify our budget. So much of the original character was removed before our involvement so it felt special to keep some of the home’s history and charm alive during our extensive renovations.

Our client had a vision of beautiful wide plank flooring and we couldn’t be happier with the collaboration. A trademark of ours was the finishing touch, oversized gas lanterns to flank the formal entrance. It truly is a magnificent home. After more than two years we finally got the Certificate of Occupancy. We look forward to furnishing this home alongside this incredible family. The story can only get better from here.

Slow and steady wins the race. Let us know how we can help tackle your construction projects.
